This swan sidled up to me at the waters edge and put on a glorious display of wings. Twirling one way, then the next, so I didn’t miss the bundles of soft feathers elegantly arranged with the grandeur of a chandelier. Clearly they had heard I was painting swans that summer, so I happily acquiesced. As they peered over their shoulder I thought how wonderful it is to look back in admiration of all that is good. Even if behind you, the past remains, no matter what comes next.
